11-22-09... Identity
Celebration's own Scott McGill steps up this week to deliver a heartfelt message about "identity" -- where we find it, what it means for us, and where Jesus Christ fits in. Among other things, we look at the relationship between "who we are" and "what we do" in an attempt to not hold too tightly to anything other than Jesus. He is the only thing that we can rest assured will never let us down or leave us unfulfilled.
11-08-09... The Wild Goose Chase: Unlocking the Cage of Fear, Failure, and Guilt
This is the final week of our series on the Holy Spirit, the adventure of living Spirit-filled, and loosing ourselves from things that cage us from the adventure. This week we take a heartfelt look at Peter as an example of failure and guilt turned into victory instead of a cycle of defeat. If you are caged by fear, failure and/or guilt, know that the Lord doesn't mean for you to stay there -- there is hope, freedom and victory available through Him.
11-01-09... The Wild Goose Chase: Unlocking the Cage of Routine
Week two of our adaptation of Mark Batterson's study has us looking at Abraham in Genesis 12-15 and Paul's reflections on the story in Romans 4-5. We explore the reality that has always called people out of routine and into a life of adventure as we enter into the hope and future that He lays out for us. The key here is to break free of mental, physical, emotional, and spirital habits that create "ruts" and live out of godly imagination--what God could do in and through us! What area of your life do you need to quit assuming and start believing? What routines need to be started, stopped or adjusted in order to test His faithfulness and live in godly imagination?
10-25-09... The Wild Goose Chase: Unlocking the Cage of Responsibility
Based on an enlightening study by a similar title--"Chase the Goose" by Mark Batterson--we begin a three part series on breaking out of cages that keep us from pursuing the adventure of life with the Spirit of God. This first cage is that of responsibility where we are challenged to live "responsibly irresponsible," a life submitted to God's will above our own, even if that means scary things may lie ahead. Do you need a faith-filled irresponsibility in your life goals, time usage, future, or giving?
10-11-09... The Wild Goose Chase: Praying with the Spirit and the Understanding
This week starts off with another poem from Pastor Jason in celebration of Canadian Thanksgiving! Then we move into the mysterious realm of praying in the Spirit. Through two key passages, 1Cor. 14:15 and Rom. 8:26-28, we explore two sides of prayer, two ministries in prayer, and two promises in prayer. Recognizing that we do not know how to pray as we ought, we come to the Father and just cry, "Daddy!" And the Holy Spirit helps us with the rest.
10-04-09... The Wild Goose Chase: Keep in Step with the Spirit
Every believer carries the responsibility of balancing the privilege of falling on grace with the calling to produce good works. This week we explore some of the dynamics of "why" we do the spiritual things that we do, and where the work of the Spirit is in that. With Galatians 5 as our main text, we break down the battle between flesh and Spirit, between grace and the law, and walking in the Spirit empowers us to break not only the power of the flesh but also the influence of the flesh in order to produce good fruit. All of this is essential to realizing the spiritual vitality that Jesus promises as we keep in step with our indwelling Counselor, Comforter, Teacher, Friend.
09-27-09... The Pitfall of Pride and the High Honor of Humility
This week we get to hear from Pastoral Team member Daniel Macfarlane as he shares his heart on the topic of Pride and its effect on the believer. A self proclaimed "expert" on pride, since he sees himself so often guilty of it, Dan exhorts us to a proper view of Pride, to expelling it from our lives wherever possible, and to the high call of embracing humility in light of Christ's example. A timeless message, this message holds relevance for us all.
09-20-09... The Wild Goose Chase: Fellowship of the Spirit
Building on the Personhood of the Holy Spirit and the work that the Spirit does in our lives, we explore the Biblical idea of Fellowship in the Spirit. Looking primarily at Philippians chapter 2, we unpack the significance and greater work of having "joint-partnership" with God dwelling inside us.
09-13-09... The Wild Goose Chase: Exploring the Personality and Work of the Holy Spirit
Exciting times! This Sunday is the end of Frosh week and the beginning of a new sermon series. We're boldly exploring the wonderful, mysterious nature and work of the Holy Spirit. Though trying to wrap our minds around the Trinity or the Holy Spirit is a bit like a wild goose chase, this mission is one with endless good as its possible outcome, and we trust that end is just the sort of thing we can expect from THE Wild Goose. We start by talking about how we can deduce from Scripture that the Holy Spirit is a distinct person within the Godhead. As well, we look a little at the job description we get in the Bible.
